An interview with Javier Villa

An interview with Javier Villa

19 March 2007

Javier Villa will go into his second GP2 season with Racing Engineering. The young talented Spaniard currently prepares himself for the upcoming opening round in Bahrain. GPUpdate caught up with the youngest GP2 driver to find out the current situation around the 19-year-old.

How do you feel after all the test sessions?
I have a really good team and we have been working a lot during the winter tests. Things are going very well and I am happy and confident. I am convinced we will continue to improve the car throughout the season.

How do you think you have done during the pre-season?
I think we have done a lot of good development work trying different set ups, some of them we discarded and others were really good ones. Therefore the balance of our work is positive. As for my own performance, I am very please really. Times were ok when we were pushing hard and therefore I think we have done a good job.

What are your goals for the new season?
I hope to be constantly in the points and will fight for the podium and why not win some races? It is a very competitive field of drivers and some of them have so much more experience in racing than I do. I will be once again the youngest driver at the grid, but I think the test results have shown that I can be up there as well. Last year everything was new for me, the tracks and the car and it was a big step. This season I know the tracks and I'm very familiar with the car and therefore a lot is possible I believe.

What will you be doing from now until the season starts?
To be honest there isn't much time left until the first race and therefore there aren't many new things. I continue with my studies and my physical preparation. I have several events with my sponsors and in some days we have the 2007 team presentation here in Asturias.
