Di Grassi relying on consistency

Di Grassi relying on consistency

13 April 2007

Lucas di Grassi is content with his fourth place on the grid for the opening GP2 race of the season in Bahrain. The Brazilian scored only eight points in the championship last season for the Durango team but will be hoping that this year, having moved to 2005 and 2006 champions ART International, he can be a title contender.

"In general I'm happy," the 22-year-old said.

"I think we didn't have the perfect car for qualifying for this race but I still managed to put it in the front two rows. I think this championship is so close. I was one and a half tenths from pole, so its going to be all about consistency.

"It doesn't matter if you do pole in one race and you are last in the next one. I am happy that we kept the same pace that we saw in the winter tests, top five more or less every session, and if we continue to do that all year long we'll be in a good position to fight for the championship.

"I think the race [tomorrow] will be less close than qualifying because to set up a GP2 car for qualifying, for one lap, is one thing. But to set it up for 35 is a different story. The tyre consumption here is very high, the brake consumption here is very high, we are in the first race of the season, so I think its going to be a very tough and interesting race. I think that who can setup the car to look after the tyres will finish the race in front."
