Filippi claims first pole of 2007

Luca Filippi clinched the first pole of the 2007 GP2 Series season in Bahrain. The Super Nova International driver just beat Alexandre Negrao of Piquet Sports by under a tenth of a second. iSport International's Andreas Zuber was third quickest but only by 0.018s with Lucas di Grassi close behind in his ART Grand Prix.

Bruno Senna was an impressive fifth fastest in his debut qualifying session for experienced team Arden International.

Disappointed will be Zuber's team-mate Timo Glock who had set the fastest time in practice but was unable to keep his name at the top of the timesheets as he ended up seventh fastest. Borja Garcia looked solid as the Spaniard claimed eighth position on his return to GP2 for the Durango team. Whilst Kazuki Nakajima and British hopeful Mike Conway make up the top ten.

The closeness of the times in the top ten suggest that tomorrow's sprint race will be very competitive.
