Action-packed race for Glock

Action-packed race for Glock

14 April 2007

Timo Glock put in one of the most impressive drives in today's GP2 race as he made to the second step of the podium from seventh on the grid. The German surprised everyone with the ease in which he snuck up to second place at the start. He even shocked himself.

"I couldn't believe it," Glock said.

"Because I had no wheelspin and everyone went to the inside, so I thought a little bit about that move by Hamilton and said okay, I'll go to the outside and see how I do, and I came out in P2. So it worked out!"

Glock's brave lunge did however have its consequences as he collided with Alexandre Negrao and sustained suspension damage.

"I hit Xandi Negrao after the first corner because I was on the inside and he didn't leave me any room, and we crashed. After that point I thought I can't finish the race because the steering was completely to the right, and both suspensions were a little bit bent, and unfortunately I locked up the front left tyre as well on the second or third lap as we came up to first corner - I don't know what happened but there was a bit of fluid on the ground - so I locked it a little bit too hard up.

"So it was not too easy to drive and I thought 'how can I keep Andi behind you' but at the end I got used to it and got a good driving style, a good rhythm.

"After the pitstop for the first few laps I could go at a pretty good pace but from that point on there was no chance to catch up to Filippi because the front left was too bad, the suspension was bent and the steering was to the right, so I thought I better save the points for the championship.

"After that I had to really worry about the front left because the tyre was going so hard off, so I'm happy that we managed in the end to finish P2 and get some points for the championship."
