Filippi claims first win
14 April 2007 / Results / PhotosLuca Filippi turned his maiden pole position into a maiden victory at today's first GP2 race in Bahrain. The Italian was rarely threatened and only lost his lead during the pit stops. The Super Nova International driver was joined by iSport International team-mates Timo Glock and Andreas Zuber on the podium.
Glock made a great start after a disappointing qualifying had left him seventh on the grid. Coming out of the first corner he was upto second place and stayed there for the remainder of the race, unable to catch the flying Filippi.
Bruno Senna was an impressive fourth on his debut but fifth placed Lucas di Grassi made sure he worked hard for it after he had charged past his Arden team-mate Adrian Zaugg.
Zaugg held onto sixth spot from Nicolas Lapierre in his DAMS, whilst Borja Garcia will start tomorrow's race from pole having finished eighth.
Alexandre Negrao will be disappointed to have missed out on a point's finish having started on the front row of the grid. The Minardi Piquet Sports driver collided with Glock at the start of the race, which knocked him down the order, and he was unable to retain a high position.
