Filippi delighted with win

14 April 2007

Luca Filippi was left speechless after claiming the first GP2 Series victory of his career. The Italian led, bar pit stop changeovers, from start to finish but says that he was on the limit all the way to the chequered flag.

"It's a great feeling, a great feeling," Filippi said.

"Something I have never felt before. Also I really can't understand now why we haven't done it before! I really wanted to have a good start to show everybody what is my target, what is my goal, and really I have no words.

"It was hard because at the beginning the pace was similar between me and Glock, and then after the first pitstop he was a bit closer, and from the pitwall they were saying 'push, push', and this is what I did! I was pushing at 100% every lap and I made a bigger gap, and then I was able to manage it."

The Italian is hoping to get onto the podium tomorrow but it will not be as easy this time having to start from eighth on the grid as the top eight order is reversed.

"Obviously it will be pretty difficult, especially at the first corner where it is very narrow, very tight, but I will try to have a good start and then if my pace is as good as today then I can push and make positions, and then we'll see what can happen."
