Lapierre sprints to first victory

Nicolas Lapierre won the sprint race today to take his first ever GP2 victory. The Frenchman got ahead of Borja Garcia on the opening lap at turn four, having started on the front row alongside the Durango driver. The DAMS driver led through out the race despite the safety car closing the field up on two occasions.

Timo Glock put in another stunning performance to come from seventh on the grid to claim second, as he did in yesterday's feature race. The German also had to pull a move on pole-sitter and feature race winner Luca Filippi, who joined Glock on the final step of the podium.

Garcia managed to hold onto fourth in the end after pressure from Mike Conway in fifth, who was the drive of the day having started from the back of the grid. He managed to avoid any incidents as he charged through the pack.

Part-time Williams test driver Kazuki Nakajima also put in a noteworthy drive as he passed Michael Ammermuller on the final lap to round off the top six and fill the last scoring position.
