Aleshin to replace Ammermuller

Aleshin to replace Ammermuller

09 May 2007

Unfortunately for Michael Ammermuller he will not be able to participate in the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix this weekend. The ART Grand Prix driver will be replaced by World Series by Renault driver Mikhail Aleshin.

Ammermuller suffered a broken scaphoid bone in his wrist at the first round in Bahrain, but despite surgery to rectify the problem, the injury has failed to heal sufficiently to allow him to race in Spain. He will therefore be replaced by fellow Red Bull driver Mikhail Aleshin, the Russian who won the first race of the 2007 Renault World Series championship at Monza earlier in the year. Aleshin currently sits fourth in the championship after two rounds.

Aleshin became the first Russian to win a race in a European championship in 2005 when he was racing in Formula Renault. In 2007 he is seen as one of the favourites for the WSR crown, as he races alongside F1 tester Sebastien Vettel at the Red Bull sponsored Carlin team.
