Senna qualifies in ninth
25 May 2007 / Results / PhotosArden International driver Bruno Senna has qualified himself in ninth position for Saturday's Grand Prix. Senna hoped for more but due to traffic in his fast laps he had to be satisfied with his ninth grid position.
The Senna name is synonymous with the Monaco circuit, with Bruno's uncle Ayrton holding the record for the most victories at the circuit, after six wins. Bruno first drove in the principality in the Porsche Supercup last year, but this season in GP2 marks his single-seater debut on the track.
Qualifying began just an hour after the final practice finished, and had frequent yellow flags, and a lengthy red flag period seven minutes before the end due to oil on the track. A final yellow flag followed this just two minutes before the chequered flag. Bruno was able to set the ninth fastest time in this session, putting him on the fifth row for tomorrow.
Bruno Senna said: "It's a really nice feeling to be racing here. It's the first time I've raced a very fast car around the streets, and it's good to see the challenge that my uncle faced when he was racing around here. It's also great to be here, competing in GP2, which is a very competitive series. I qualified ninth, which was okay, but we had a bit of a nightmare with traffic and getting the set-up right. It's the first time I've driven a GP2 car on a street circuit, so it's all about gaining experience. Anything can happen at this track so I'm just ready now for the race tomorrow."
