Maldonado hails 'incredible' win
26 May 2007 / Results / PhotosPastor Maldonado is delighted with his first win in the GP2 series. In the Venezuelan's first season, the Trident driver completely dominated every session for the Monaco Grand Prix and led the race from start to finish to record a memorable win at the calendar's most popular event. After a slow start to the season, Maldonado hopes that his win will kick-start Trident Racing's championship campaign.
"I feel incredibly happy! I think we worked very hard for this race, and I'm very happy to for my team, for my country, for my sponsors, and now for us the championship starts here, in Monte Carlo," Maldonado said.
"I think the race was on my hands, under control - I never took a big risk, and just drive and I saw the gap between Giorgio Pantano and me, and I was always faster than him lap by lap, so I never take any big risks.
"It was incredible, an incredible weekend for us from the beginning of the weekend - we were faster in free practice, faster in qualifying, and I think a big difference to the others, so I'm happy because it was an incredible weekend for us.
"I love the track, I love the place, and I think it's important for me this circuit, and not only for me but I think for every driver this is the most important race during the championship. And it's my first podium in GP2, my first win in GP2, so incredible, incredibly happy, and I think the team gets a lot of points here, so now we have to focus on the championship. I think we can do well, so now we have to fight until the end of the season."
