Soucek faces difficult race at Magny-Cours
28 June 2007The GP2 teams will be back in action this weekend at Magny-Cours. For Andy Soucek it won't be an easy weekend. Soucek finished in 15th place at the Monaco round last month, but picked up a ten place grid penalty for a racing incident which he will serve this weekend.
Soucek knows the challenge he faces with his 10 place grid penalty, saying, "Losing 10 places wherever I qualify is going to be very tough, but we really need to finish in the points, so I'll still be trying for the quickest lap to be as close to an 11th place start as possible. We tested in Paul Ricard last week and that went quite well for me, and we used some of this time to focus on qualifying, so I hope that I can capitalise on this and we made some steps forward which I hope will be beneficial for Magny Cours."
Prior to this weekend, Soucek found time to test at the track in a World Series car and is hoping that this will be an advantage to him: "I tested here a couple of months ago in a World Series car, driving about 20 to 25 laps on old tyres and this gave me the chance to learn the track. The chicanes are quick, it's quite a demanding track and it's not going to be easy. I think the drivers in GP2 with F1 experience will find it a little less difficult, especially as we have so little practice time."
