Di Grassi closes in on GP2 championship lead

Lucas di Grassi finished fourth in Sunday's GP2 sprint race at Silverstone, and the Renault Driver Development squad member has moved into a clear second place in the championship.

With leader Timo Glock failing to finish Lucas is now just two points behind the German, and is two points clear of third placed Luca Filippi, who also failed to score. Lucas has earned points in seven of the right races held so far this season. He has yet to win a race.

Lucas started the race from fifth on the grid, and got away extremely well. He moved up to third, and very nearly managed to secure second, only to lose out to Adam Carroll. He ran third for much of the race before being passed by the charging Kazuki Nakajima. For the last part of the race he skilfully withstood strong pressure from a group of potentially faster cars, and held on to fourth place.

'At the start I nearly got second, but I didn't see Carroll on the outside - I thought that he was behind. And then when I saw him, he was already a bit in front. But it was a great start, and I think I got the points because of that, because we didn't have the speed to overtake. After that, I pushed every single lap.

'I'm looking good in the championship because I didn't do any mistakes in all the races, and I scored a lot of points. Of course, there is still a lot of work to do on the car in order to gain pace, but I know that the team will soon be able to improve even more the performance of our car.'
