Glock wins Turkish sprint
26 August 2007 / Results / PhotosTimo Glock took back his lead in the championship after winning an action-packed sprint race in Istanbul this morning. A Chandhok-Nakajima collision gifted Glock the win and a two-point lead over di Grassi in the standings. Alex Negrao finished second ahead of Adam Carroll who took his second podium of the weekend.
Borja Garcia, Vitaly Petrov and Bruno Senna completed the top six and the rest of the points-paying positions. Lucas di Grassi finished in 11th after a drive-through penalty cost him valuable points in the title race.
Pole-sitter Karun Chandhok got off to a clean start to retain his lead as Kazuki Nakajima jumped Alex Negrao for second. Glock, who looked fired up to take back control of the drivers' championship, charged passed Borja Garcia and Negrao for third. Mike Conway suffered another first corner exit when touched by Kohei Hirate. The Japanese driver consequently coasted back to the pits, where he retired with damage. Meanwhile Lucas di Grassi had found a way past Giorgio Pantano for seventh and was on the edge of the points behind Adam Carroll.

Further back local-boy Jason Tahinci's home race came to an end when he was punted off by Sebastien Buemi on the final corner, before Adrian Zaugg ran into him. Buemi spun off as a result and Zaugg was forced back into the pits with a damaged front wing, rejoining with a new wing and tyres.
Lucas di Grassi climbed into the points after getting past Carroll, whilst Nakajima and Glock were putting pressure on Chandhok. Then Glock was gifted the lead when Nakajima tried an audacious move on Chandhok into the final corner and spun the Indian around, who was unable to continue. Nakajima carried on but was brought into the pits for a drive-through penalty following the stunt. Another to be penalised was di Grassi, who had lost his sixth place to Carroll, and was awarded a driver-through penalty supposedly for going into the back of Pantano. Buemi was also added to the drive-through list for his move on Tahinci.
Meanwhile Senna was enjoying himself - spinning in fifth, dropping to eighth before muscling past Filippi and back into the points. Meanwhile it was all too much for Senna's team-mate Zaugg who spun out on the last lap.
