Senna back on the podium in Monza
09 September 2007Bruno Senna took a welcome step back onto the podium in today's GP2 sprint race at the Monza circuit in Italy. It is the Brazilian's first podium since the Magny Cours race in July, and the nine points he has collected this weekend have elevated him to seventh in the championship.

Bruno began from fifth on the grid after his fourth place finish yesterday. He made a fantastic start and was up to second after the first corner. On lap three Giorgio Pantano passed the 23-year-old, pushing him down to third, but he quickly regained the place when Pantano spun later on the same lap. On lap five, eventual race winner Timo Glock passed Bruno to put him once again in third, and two laps later he dropped to fourth when Italian Luca Filippi passed him. However, with Ricardo Rissati dropping out of the lead on lap eight, Bruno retook the final podium position and retained it until the chequered flag.
The GP2 Series moved directly to the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium for next weekend's penultimate round of this year's championship. The track has not been used since 2005 due to circuit renovations so will be a new challenge for many of the drivers.

Bruno Senna: "It's good to be back on the podium! It's been a while and we had a bit of a struggle at some of the races. Right now I'm very satisfied that we can be competitive again. It was a tough race because I touched with Luca [Filippi] on the second chicane and I had bent steering for the rest of the race, which wasn't easy! I was quick enough to fend off whoever was behind me though and we finished on the podium so I'm very happy. It's easy to say that we can build from here, but we have a lot of work to do to get the car competitive for Spa and Valencia, so we will continue to work hard and push."
