Spaniard Andy Soucek proved his recent run of podiums was no fluke with the best time in this afternoon's testing session in Jerez. The DPR driver set the fastest time of 1:28.059 towards the end of the three hour session, despite a number of red flags and the best efforts of the ART duo of Mike Conway and Sebastien Buemi who wound up second and third fastest.

The afternoon session had taken quite a calm pace until the final hour, and as usual with drivers switching outfits for the second day, the final 45 minutes resembled a qualifying session as everyone tried to impress. The red flag came out five times in that final foray: Adam Kahn, Michael Herck, Andi Zuber, Roldan Rodriguez and Marco Bonanomi being the guilty parties.

It was Bonanomi however who finished the afternoon as the top non-2007 GP2 Series driver, taking fourth position in the Minardi Piquet Sports car by two thousandths of a second from Javier Villa in the Racing Engineering car. Bruno Senna took his Campos into sixth position, with this morning's fastest man Adam Carroll seventh for iSport International. Eighth place went to Roldan Rodriguez in the second Minardi, with Andi Zuber ninth for Trident. Luca Filippi formed the second of two DPR bookends for the top ten, eventually taking 10th position on his first of two days for the British team.

Today marked the GP2 Series debuts of a number of drivers, amongst them highly regarded Euro F3 race winner Kamui Kobayashi who wound up 14th in the Dams. He will be hoping for slightly more tomorrow as he moves across to ART Grand Prix.

Also tomorrow, Karun Chandhok will take his first laps at the wheel of the championship-winning iSport International car, alongside Bruno Senna. Both men won GP2 Series races in 2007 and, just as with Adam Carroll and Xandi Negrao today, much attention will be on how those two drivers fare in what has become seen as the car to beat in the series.

Ernesto Viso will also make a return tomorrow for Racing Engineering, as Sebastien Buemi joins Andi Zuber at Trident Racing.

Watch out for Campos Grand Prix however. Their 2007 line-up of Giorgio Pantano and Vitaly Petrov will be united once again for the final day of testing at Jerez, and witnessing their combined strength in Valencia, they could well be fighting for the top positions once again.
