Finally something to celebrate at Dams

Finally something to celebrate at Dams

22 March 2008

Today the Dams team put on a strong performance on the Sepang circuit in Malaysia in the 5th round of the Asian Series GP2 Championship. The team read the difficult weather conditions perfectly and its strategy paid off. Jérôme d'Ambrosio started from eighteenth on the grid and finished on the podium in 3rd place, while his team-mate, Kamui Kobayashi, saw the flag in fifth.

Eric Boullier, team manager commented, "Since the start of the championship we've known that we've got the potential to fight at the front, but for different reasons we were not been able to capitalise on our efforts in the first two meetings. Today, we've shown our true level of competitiveness. I want to congratulate the whole team for the great job they've done as well as our drivers who made no mistakes in very tricky conditions; the engineers who reacted like lightning and the mechanics who carried out perfect refuelling stops. Tomorrow's aim is clear; a points finish for both cars and hopefully another podium!"

Jérôme d'Ambrosio added, "What a race! After missing out in several rounds because of the mechanical problems that have hamstrung me since the start of the championship, I was able to turn things around by finishing on the podium today. It's a great morale booster. It was a tough race. I didn't make any mistakes and knew when to push at the right moment. The team reacted perfectly to the track conditions and my refuelling stop went off like clockwork. What's really good is that this result owes nothing to chance. It's above all the fruit of perfectly-executed team work."

Kamui Kobayashi commented, "We're now definitely heading in the right direction after a few difficult races, and our efforts are starting to pay off. Today's track conditions were very tricky and you really had to fight your way up through the field. Our strategy was the right one; we shod the dry weather tyres at just the right time and got the best out of the changing conditions. Tomorrow, I'm starting from 3rd spot in the short race and I really want to score my first podium finish."
