Weekend to forget for Meritus

Weekend to forget for Meritus

23 March 2008

The second day ended up bringing more disappointment for Filippi who had to bring the car back to the pits five laps before the end of the race after a brake failure. Yoshimoto finished in 11th position.

Luca Filippi commented: "I had a good first lap and already made ten places. I had a good rhythm for the first part of the race. Then the brake temperature went very hot. As I was attacking a lot and passed a lot of the other drivers it became critical. I was tenth in the classification after a start practically from the back of the grid. There were still many laps to go. I was losing a lot of time fighting with the other drivers. Finally as I was coming up to Valsechi the brake temperature went hotter and I decided to play it wise and go back to the pit. A shame as we had a car for a good podium potential and the team had worked to make it perfect for a good race."

Hiroki Yoshimoto finished in 10th position having started from 21st and commented: "It was so hot out there. But I had a good first lap. I was on the inside line a I was a bit stuck with Sebastien Buemi and Adrian Valles. They touched and I lost a bit of time avoiding their accident. After two laps I had passed so many cars that I think it was a record and really good fun to overtake. I was afraid that my tyres went off towards the end and four laps before the flag I had to be really careful not to go off."

Peter Thompson, president and team founder, Qi-Meritus.Mahara: "We came to Malaysia with a lot of hopes but we lost the advantage when the drivers were sanctioned ignoring yellow flags on Friday. But the team did a good job in our hot home race. Filippi and Yoshimoto pushed hard today for the home race in Malaysia. We are looking forward to showing our true potential in Bahrain in two weeks time."
