Kamui Kobayashi won Sunday morning's sprint race in Bahrain, but all eyes were on Romain Grosjean who claimed the very first GP2 Asia series title. Even though the Frenchman was unable to finish Petrov will not be able to score more points than Grosjean.
The sprint race got underway with Karun Chandhok starting the race from pole position. The iSport driver did everything he could to defend his lead at the start but touched Nunes and spun off track. With various drivers making small mistakes it was Vitaly Petrov and Romain Grosjean leading. Petrov couldn't enjoy the lead for long though as Grosjean managed to overtake the Russian before the end of the first lap.
In lap five Petrov spun off track costing him his second position. Kamui Kobayashi took his second place in a solid race. Halfway into the race saw Romain Grosjean lock up his tyres causing enormous blisters on his tyre. The car was impossible to handle and the Frenchman had to end his race in the pitlane.
Kobayashi took over Grosjean's first position and finished in first for the second time this year. The Japanese DAMS driver finished ahead of Trust Team Arden driver Sebastien Buemi and Vitaly Petrov. Grosjean scored one point for completing the fastest lap during the race. Grosjean is now 21 points ahead of Petrov and with only two races left it is impossible for Petrov to catch Grosjean in the championship.
Renault backed driver Romain Grosjean takes the GP2 Asia series title in only his first season and he promises an exciting season as GP2's main series will get off in two weeks time at Circuit de Catalunya.
