Grosjean takes Dubai pole

Grosjean takes Dubai pole

11 April 2008

Romain Grosjean claimed his fourth pole position of the season in front of Bruno Senna and Kamui Kobayashi at Dubai's Autodrome, in the final showdown of the inaugural GP2 Asia series.

After setting the pace during Free Practice, the Frenchman snatched his fourth pole position in the 2008 GP2 Asia Series. iSport International Brazilian ace, Bruno Senna, will start next to him on the front row. Japanese star Kamui Kobayashi from Dams takes second row, next to Piquet Sports' Marco Bonanomi.

Hiroki Yashimoto completes the Top 5, followed by Yelmer Buurman, Vitaly Petrov, Sébastien Buemi, Luca Filippi and Davide Valsecchi.

Out of the six drivers who can still fight for second and third of the GP2 Asia championship, only Adrian Valles and Fairuz Fauzy failed to qualify in the Top 10: the Spaniard ended up 18th, just in front of the Malaysian driver.

"I was declared champion after I had to retire from last race because of technical problems," Grosjean said after clinching pole. "Here, in Dubai, I don't want to miss the opportunity to end the Asia Series on a high note. I hope this pole is the beginning of a great weekend."

Bruno Senna commented, "I'm happy with this result: the car was really good today, but I made a small mistake and Grosjean took pole. I'm positive that the race will be very interesting this afternoon!"

Kamui Kobayashi added, "It could have been better… As the championship went on, we became more and more competitive and I really want to finish second. I'll have to make a good start and then, fight again for the win."
