Kobayashi wins sprint race ahead of Buemi

Kamui Kobayashi has claimed his first victory of the season in the GP2 main series. The DAMS driver was behind Grosjean for most of the race but took the lead as Grosjean received a drive through penalty for blocking Kobayashi. Buemi and Pantano finished second and third on Sunday morning.

The Spanish Grand Prix sprint race got underway without Christian Bakkerud on Sunday morning. The Danish driver was unable to finish Saturday's race due to back problems.

The race got underway with Kobayashi and Buemi fighting for first position. The Japanese driver had to push Buemi onto the grass in order to keep the lead, strangly enough he wasn't punished for his move while at the end of the race Romain Grosjean did get a penalty for blocking Kobayashi.

After three laps Grosjean moved towards P1 as he managed to overtake Kobayashi in turn one. A few laps later the safety car came out as debutant Giacomo Ricci spun in the final chicane and was unable to keep his car running. As the safety car pulled in Grosjean blocked Kobayashi for the lead but race control was not amused and gave the Frenchman a drive through penalty.

In the end Kamui Kobayashi took his first victory of the season, just ahead of Sebastien Buemi and Giorgio Pantano.
