After his victory in yesterday's GP2 feature event through the streets of Monte Carlo, Bruno Senna put in a mature race in today's sprint. From eighth place on the reverse grid, he gained two places on the opening lap - when he jinked his way around a first-corner accident - and moved up to fifth when Adrian Valles (BCN) was penalised for short-cutting Ste Dévote. The result earned Senna two championship points and gave him the GP2 Series lead for the first time this season. Although he is tied with series veteran Giorgio Pantano (Racing Engineering), the Brazilian's superior results give him the advantage on a countback.
"It was a fairly quiet afternoon, really, and there was nothing much I could do to make progress," Senna said. "I had a very good view of Roldan Rodriguez's gearbox for most of the race. I knew I was potentially faster, but everyone accepts it is almost impossible to overtake here and you mustn't allow frustration to get the better of you. I just settled down to do the best job I could and wait for others to make mistakes."
"The team has done an absolutely great job preparing the car and they are really helping me to progress as a driver," he added. "Overall, this has been a good weekend and it gives us a good platform for the forthcoming races, starting at Magny-Cours next month. I'm already looking forward to that."
