Hulkenberg to be replaced by Maldonado

Nico Hulkenberg will compete in his final GP2 Asia series race this evening as the German will be replaced by Pastor Maldonado for the final two races in the championship. Hulkenberg made a stunning impression in his first two race weekends but Maldonado will be finishing the season with Yamamoto.

Hulkenberg has been scoring the maximum number of points on Friday and did well in the championship standings. The German could even think about a possible championship victory but unfortunately for Hulkenberg he will be replaced by Pastor Maldonado in the final two races. "I'm not going to do the remaining rounds," Hulkenberg said. "Pastor Maldonado will be replacing me. I'm only doing Bahrain and Qatar."

The driver switch was decided before the season even started. Hulkenberg and Maldonado will both compete with ART Grand Prix in the GP2 Main Series. Both drivers got the opportunity to get used to the team and the car in two race weekends in the Asia series in preparation for the GP2 Main series.
