Piquet GP confirms Valerio

04 March 2009

Alberto Valerio was announced as Piquet GP's driver for the GP2 main series in 2009. The Brazilian enjoyed his debut in GP2 last season with Durango with seventh as a best finish at the Turkish Grand Prix weekend.

Valerio made his debut in single-seater in 2003 in South American Formula 3 and became champion in 2005. The following year, Valerio moved to British F3 and to WSR 3.5. In 2007, the driver repeated the experience in the British F3 Championship. He then entered the first GP2 Asia Series, followed by a complete season in GP2 Series in 2008.

For 2009, the young Brazilian will drive for Piquet GP alongside Spaniard Roldan Rodriguez. They will join the rest of the GP2 paddock next week at Paul Ricard from March 11th to 13th for a three-day test session.

Alberto Valerio said: "I am really pleased with this agreement. I think Piquet GP is an extremely competitive team and I'm sure that together with the technical staff I will improve race after race. Next week, we will be at Paul Ricard for a three-day test session that will be very important for the start of the 2009 season. The objective will be to get a good feeling with the car and my new team."
