Italian Filippi, 23, worked with the team in 2007 and finished fourth in the standings. Having experienced a positive test at Paul Ricard with Super Nova over the winter, a deal was finally agreed: "I am really pleased to be back at Super Nova because this is what I really wanted and have been working really hard to come to a deal. I want to better the 2007 season we had together; I see great potential in the team and it is clear how hard they are working to make sure 2009 is a great year. I couldn't wish to be in a better place."
Villa continues into the main GP2 series having raced with Super Nova in the latest GP2 Asia championship. "I am very happy with the way the team works and I am hoping for great things this year," the Spaniard commented. The team is yet to announce its sponsors for this year, which it will do at the launch of the series in Barcelona on 23 March.
Team Principal, David Sears, believes this season of GP2 will be the most competitive since the inauguration of the series in 2005: "We are extremely pleased to announce both of our drivers for the 2009 season. It's fantastic that Javier got to know the team in the Asia series and is coming with us into the main one. We welcome back Luca, as he has had more success with our GP2 team than any driver, from when he was with us two years ago!"
