Di Grassi tops Barcelona test

Lucas Di Grassi has finished on top of Monday's test session in Barcelona; the Brazilian topped the timesheets amid ideal weather conditions with a lap time of 1.27.471 for the local Racing Engineering team, with Alvaro Parente second and Nico Hulkenberg third. As half a second covered the top three, the red flag made several appearances.

Blue skies and warm temperatures graced the Circuit de Catalunya as Russian Vitaly Petrov ended the day fourth for Campos having been third after the morning session, with Super Nova's Javier Villa rounding out the top five.

In sixth place was Italian Davide Valsecchi, who was satisfied with his day's work: "Today I have been fast so the first test day went welll. We did a good job with the setup but in our programme there are some more small modifications still to do. I am really very curious to try them."

At the front of the classification, a confident Di Grassi was still fastest following the last session at Paul Ricard. "We did a qualifying simulation today to see how the medium compound tyres work in Barcelona," Lucas explained. "As they are new for this track, we wanted to see how they reacted and went for a fast time. The car is very, very good and the team did a really good job. We obtained precious information as the car ran perfectly all day."

Testing with resume in Catalonia at 9am local time tomorrow (GMT+1).
