Kobayashi fastest in free practice

DAMS driver Kamui Kobayashi completed the fastest lap in Friday's free practice session at Sepang. The Japanese driver's quickest time of 1.46.432  saw him finish just ahead of his team-mate Jerome d'Ambrosio, with Kobayashi's championship rival Davide Valsecchi in sixth.

Kobayashi, Toyota's F1 test driver, was where he needed to be although the French DAMS squad were also pleased to be back on top form with second driver Ambrosio, who was just two tenths slower from his team-mate.

In a trouble-free session, featuring just two yellow flags, Shanghai's poleman and race winner Roldan Rodriguez displayed Piquet GP's strong form by registering the third best time as he lead team-mate Diego Nuñes, who was fourth. Barwa's Vitaly Petrov was fifth, ahead of Durango's title-contending Davide Valsecchi.

Behind the Italian, Alvaro Parente finished seventh for Meritus while team-mate Marco Bonanomi could only complete one lap, handicapped by an electrical problem. Rookie Edoardo Mortara placed his Arden car in eighth position ahead of Barwa ace Sergio Perez. GP2 Asia returnee Pastor Maldonado, at the wheel of the ART car, completed the top ten.
