Kamui Kobayashi finished a more respectable fifth in the sprint race at the Circuit de Catalunya on Sunday, although the GP2 Asia Series Champion was disappointed to have dropped four places after starting from pole position. The Japanese driver insists, however, that consistent results are vital across the twenty round championship.
An impressive start to the new season in Saturday's feature race saw the DAMS car finish in 8th spot from 22nd on the grid, after a Friday qualifying problem had restrained the 22-year-old. Position eight in race one translated to position one on Sunday's grid, though, and the ideal chance to claim race victory in the pleasant Spanish conditions.

"I'm disappointed," admitted Kobayashi. "When you start from pole your aim is to win the race. The result was decided for me when the lights went out. I wasn't able to accelerate properly - maybe because my tyres were too cold - and I lost several places on the long straight before the first corner."
From the front of the grid, the Asia title winner eventually finished 17 seconds behind race winner Edoardo Mortara. "Barcelona is a circuit on which overtaking is very difficult, so I was forced to stay in fifth place throughout the race," a downcast Kobayashi continued. "It's a bit frustrating but I try to look on the bright side of things; I've scored points and that's what I'll have to do in each round if I want to win the title this year."
