Reigning GP2 Champion Giorgio Pantano will be joining the Superleague Formula series this season, it has been announced. The Italian, who clinched the GP2 title with Racing Engineering having taken four race wins last year, is excited to be entering the championship for the first time.
"It is a great pleasure to represent Al-Ain in the Superleague Formula this season," said 30-year-old Pantano, who will be representing the United Arab Emirates' team. "This opportunity is a new challenge for me because the competition is of high level there as well."
Run by the Belgian Azerti team, the squad will be looking to take on the likes of Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur in the series which sees football meet motorsport. "The special format of the championship and the battles on the track are quite hard," continued Giorgio, who will be hoping to take the fight to reigning Champions Beijing Guoan. "I am sure that I will quickly be on the pace; within a few days I will have my first meeting with the technicians of the team."
