Pantano to join Campos?

Giorgio Pantano has admitted his interest in joining the Campos team for a possible return to Formula One next season. The Italian, GP2 Champion of 2008 who drove in fourteen F1 races for Jordan five years ago, is keen to rejoin the World Championship after failing to be promoted despite last year's success.

After a fruitless 2004 in which no points were scored and resulted with Pantano replaced by Timo Glock before the end of the season, the 30-year-old silenced critics by claiming the GP2 title for Racing Engineering last season. With news of Spanish team Campos moving from GP2 to F1 next year, however, Giorgio is keen to get involved in the action again.

"There is nothing that we can say at the moment, just that we have had a good relationship and also that we had a great time together," Pantano told Autosport, having driven Adrian Campos' cars to two race wins and third overall during the 2007 GP2 season. "We've had a good announcement from the FIA and I am happy for him and the people working for him because they are wonderful - now we'll see if there is a chance for me there."

Powered by Cosworth engines, the team is one of three new entrants on the grid for 2010, joining the fray at the same time as USF1 and Manor. "I think Campos will do a very good job as they have Dallara building the car," Giorgio continued. "It is good to have another racing manufacturer come in and Dallara is the best to do it.

"My dream is Formula One or IndyCar, they are the first series that I want to be involved in. I don't want to race in other categories; my focus is on them and otherwise I'll think about changing my job if there isn't something good - I have to look at my future now." As for 2009, Pantano is currently competing in Formula Superfund as well as contesting two rounds of the Renault Mégane Trophy at the Hungaroring.
