In a thrilling sprint race at the Hungaroring on Sunday, Giedo van der Garde drove brilliantly to register his first GP2 win. Giedo started from second place on the grid but took the lead immediately at the start. He never held any other place but first from this point onwards, no matter how much pressure was being applied.

"This is just fantastic," Giedo said after the race. "This is great for the team and I can't think of a better way to start the summer break. I had a great start and managed to create a gap on the first lap but my rear tyres we're getting slippery quite quickly, so I had to look after them - that gave the guys behind me the chance to catch up. I knew that a single mistake would cost me dearly but I was so focussed, nothing could throw me off.

"As a team, we've had some difficult races and thus victory is very important. We've changed something on the front of the car this weekend and, boy, did it pay off! This is a real confidence boost and a great start to the break - fantastic!"

The GP2 field now has a four week break and will be back in action on the streets of Valencia on the weekend of 22-23 August.
