Coletti replaces Valsecchi at Durango

18 August 2009

Durango announced on Tuesday that Stefano Coletti will be joining the team from this weekend in Valencia to fill the space left by Davide Valsecchi. As the Monegasque driver steps in, another part of the current mid-season driver jigsaw has been slotted into place.

News of Valsecchi's departure from Durango came a week ago and, with Romain Grosjean having stepped up to Formula One with Renault, the Italian is tipped as favourite to take the Frenchman's place at the Barwa Addax Campos team.

At Durango, Coletti joins the GP2 fray as a double F3 Euro Series winner with the Prema Powerteam this year. "I know that in Valencia I have a very difficult job to do but this GP2 debut is a chance I could not miss," said the 20-year-old. "I know it will be difficult but I am very happy as well."

"Stefano's father is a long-time personal friend of mine, which means I have known Stefano since he was born," commented Durango team boss Ivone Pinton. "He ran the first tests and races in a single seater with myself as supervisor, so having him as a GP2 driver means something special to me but, beyond the personal meanings, I am sure that he will grace Durango with satisfaction."
