The Coloni team had been forced to miss this weekend's two races in Belgium after being forced out of the qualifying session on Friday afternoon. Police and lawyers representing Formula Two driver Andy Soucek impounded the team's race cars and team transporter due to a legal dispute dating back to the start of the season.
With Coloni having recently bought back full control of the team from Fisichella Motorsport (FMS), the attempt to impound the team's possessions is the second by Soucek who, having signed for the team for 2009, claims to have had his first payment to the outfit accepted despite being dropped before the championship began.
"What is important for me is that people understand that the impounding of our cars is illegitimate," team owner Paolo Coloni told Autosport at Spa. "Obviously we are already taking all the right steps to claim back the damages that are coming from this and I have given instructions to my lawyer to evaluate what other possibilities, in terms of criminal justice, there are.
"I will not get my money back but, for sure, I will fight now." Asked if any allowance would be granted in the event of the cars being retrieved before Saturday's feature race, Coloni's reply was simple. "Rules are rules. All the teams have been very close to us and the drivers - I really need to say thanks to everybody. They know exactly what sort of company we are and they also know very well who the other party is. I think that it is just another small, sad side of motorsport that I hope will not be an example to anyone else."
