Durango pulls out of home race

11 September 2009

The Durango team announced on Friday morning that it will be unable to compete in the penultimate meeting of the season at Monza this weekend. The Italian team has been forced to miss its home race as driver Stefano Coletti, who crashed heavily in Belgium just under two weeks ago, remains too injured to continue competing after being selected as the sole driver.

With the original race car of the Monegasque driver having been written off following his huge Eau Rouge shunt two Saturdays ago, the team was able to bring only one car to Monza. With Coletti selected as the driver to pilot it, the team was given no option but to withdraw on Friday morning as the 20-year-old is suffering from new pains.

Having tested an F3000 car two days ago, the driver appeared to be in good health although the sudden pains which occurred on Thursday did not allow the team time sufficient time to find a replacement as technical scrutineering had already begun. Durango, therefore, is unable to attempt a repeat Monza win of 2008.
