After a stunning performance, iSport's Giedo van der Garde has taken victory in Saturday's GP2 feature race at Monza. The Dutchman pushed pole position winner Vitaly Petrov from start to finish in Italy before managing to leapfrog the Russian after their pit-stops.
"This is a fantastic result!" the Dutchman beamed after the race. "I am extremely happy with today's performance because the car felt just great. We've made such a good improvement in the last couple of races that we are back to the front of the grid.
"The weather conditions made the race difficult but also very exciting. In the opening laps I think I had a bit of an engine problem as I felt it didn't have the power I normally would have, so I couldn't keep up with Petrov.
"After about five laps, though, things got better and the engine felt just the way it should be; I managed to close the gap to Vitaly until a few laps before the end of the race and caught him after his pit-stop.
"I've managed to win two sprint races in GP2 so far but there's nothing like winning the feature race! We've been well on the pace all weekend - on both a dry and wet track - so I can't wait until Sunday's sprint race. Hopefully we can score another couple of points."
