Davide Valsecchi was over the moon with his Abu Dhabi pole position on Friday as the iSport driver starts from the front for this season's eight-race GP2 Asia campaign. The Italian led the way from Britain's Sam Bird as team-mate Oliver Turvey finished a difficult session in eighteenth spot.
Setting the pace by just over two tenths of a second, Italian Valsecchi is best placed at the brand-new venue. "I have to say thank you to the team for the car," Davide said after the session "I am really happy because I achieved my first pole position ever; it's my best moment in my career.
"I guess we were one or two tenths (ahead) because the car was perfect. I have felt really confident with the team from the first test to now, in qualifying, so I'm really happy."
